WHAT: Water for Elephants Book Discussion

DETAILS: Roxana Spano, Visiting Assistant Professor of English at Cazenovia College, will lead a book discussion on the 2010 CNY Reads Selection: Water for Elephants, written by Sarah Gruen.  Professor Spano has a B.A. & M.A. in English from New York University.  Her present course list includes:  Language Arts,  Academic Writing, Shakespeare and His Rivals, Theater Production, Acting Workshop, and Theater History.

WHAT: When the Circus Came to Town

DETAILS: Everyone loves the circus and the Salt City is no exception.  To celebrate the CNY Reds 2010 Book Choice, Water for Elephants, by Sara Gruen, a story in which a resident of a nursing home relives his adventures with a traveling circus during the depression, the OHA History Upstagers will recreate the times the circus came to town.  From the first circus in 1825 followed by the first elephant that same year, to the days of Senor Sautelles’ circus canal boat , to more recent days.  Experience the big top with readings from Ms. Gruen’s moving story interspersed with Salt City Circus history.
