Biographical History
The Onondaga County Historical Association is a repository of the history of Onondaga
County, NY. The association was organized in 1862 and received its legal
incorporation by the New York State Legislature in 1863. Onondaga County Historical
Association met in rented locations until 1906, when it acquired its first building
at 311 Montgomery Street, Syracuse, NY. It moved to its present location, 321
Montgomery St. Syracuse, NY in 1983. Onondaga Historical Association states that its
mission is "to inspire people’s understanding that the history we share as a
community is the foundation for our future together. Our purpose is to educate and
to encourage the exploration, appreciation, and utilization of the past in order to
add value throughout our community and bring the great stories of Onondaga County’s
history to a worldwide audience."
Scope and Contents of the Collection
Onondaga Historical Association Local History Leaflets were published from papers and
lectures sponsored by the Onondaga Historical Association. The topics centered
around the history of Onondaga County. Some of these leaflets were subsequently
published in the Syracuse Journal newspaper. The first leaflet series was published
between 1896 and 1904 with a total of 23 leaflets. The second series comprises 3
leaflets, published in 1903-1904.

The collection is arranged into two series, each series is arranged chronologically.
