MINUTES 

OCPL Board of Trustees’ Meeting 

March 10, 2010
White Branch Library
   4:00 p.m.

WELCOME Ms. Biesiada called the meeting to order at 4:15 p.m.

Ms. Dunsmore gave a PowerPoint presentation on the library’s programs and involvement with various community events.


EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S REPORT

Ms. Dailey introduced Erin Esgro, the library’s new budget analyst.


Ms. Dailey gave a report on the following topics:

YWCA Diversity Award: Ms. Dailey announced that Janet Park from Mundy Branch is one of this year’s recipients of the 2010 YWCA Academy of Diversity Achievers. The luncheon will take place on April 21st at noon at the OnCenter.

FOCL Fundraiser: Ms. Dailey reminded everyone that this event will can accommodate only 150 people and will take place on April 15th at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo. Ms. Biesiada encouraged board members to attend. Ms. Stack commented that if someone can’t attend at least show your support by sending in a donation.

Syracuse Chamber Business Show: The Chamber Show is being held on March 26th from 9-5 at the OnCenter.

Public Library Association Conference (PLA): The conference meets every other year. This year it is in Portland, Oregon from March 22-27. Thanks to the funding from the Board and FOCL for travel and training, OCPL is able to send six employees to the conference this year.

County Legislature: The Legislature eorganized their committees this year and Education and Libraries has been disbanded. The Library will now fall under the County Facilities. Kathy Rapp is the chair of this Committee.

No action was taken.

 

ACTION/DISCUSSION

No action was taken, due to the lack of a quorum.

 

Discussion Items

1st Consideration Privacy/Confidentiality Policy

Ms. Dailey reviewed the current and the changes that have been made to the policy and the procedures. The Law Department will review both and give their feedback before the Board votes on the policy.

 

OCSL

Mr. Laubacher gave an update on the following items/libraries:

Baldwinsville Library – has received a grant to have a Super Computing Center for Onondaga County. They don’t have many details about it at this time.

NYLA In the Day of a Library  – NYLA put together a  snapshot video to show the legislators Baldwinsville and NOPL participated in this. It was shown at Advocacy Day in Albany on March 2nd.

Legislator to Lunch – Most suburban libraries participated in this initiative in February.

East Syracuse Library: The Director will be retiring in March.

Ms. Jones attended East Syracuse library last meeting, which was Ms. DePietro’s last meeting.

OCSL is also in the process of reviewing their by-laws.

Ms. Biesiada inquired about the status of the Memorandum of Understanding.

 

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Government Relations

Mr. Manning reviewed his handout on the key events within the last month and the upcoming events of the Committee.

Mr. Manning commented on the positive feedback regarding the legislative lunches that were held in February. Each library should follow-up within the next four months to keep the lines of communication open between them and their legislator.

Ms. Stack suggested for next year’s Advocacy Day to have some talking points put together beforehand, so everyone is articulating the same thing.

 

VICE PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Ms. Biesiada mentioned that the Board will need to address the attendance issue.
