Ask A Librarian

Remote Reference

Whenever you cannot visit the library in person, or during the hours the library is closed, three types of remote reference services are available to you.

Telephone

All questions regarding your patron record and your library card are best handled by our telephone reference service.  Calling during the hours the library is open allows a library staff member to address your question promptly.

E-Mail

Use the e-mail reference service for general reference questions. An OCPL librarian will respond to your e-mail within 12-48 hours.

AskUs 24/7

In order to provide you reference service 24 hours a day, seven days a week, OCPL subscribes to a national service. Most often, when you use the AskUs 24/7 chat reference service, you will be chatting with a librarian from outside Onondaga County or New York State. The AskUs 24/7 service is monitored by your local librarians a limited number of hours each week.

Please select a method to contact reference from the menu on the left.
