How Do I...Get A Library Card?

Get a Library Card

You need a current driver's license or other ID with photograph and current address OR two forms of identification with your name and current address, one of which includes your signature. Frequently used types of identification include: current driver's license, automobile registration, National Grid or telephone bill, tax receipt, sheriff's identification, school or college identification card, or bus pass with address.

If you do not have acceptable identification, ask our staff about our "Identification Postals" which can be mailed to you to verify your name, address and signature. For information about library cards for children, class visits, temporary residents, or non-residents, ask at your local library
or call (315) 435-1904.

Start Your Library Card Application Process Online

Patrons who are at least 13 years old can begin their library card application online. When you register online, you will receive a temporary barcode number that you can use to request materials and do other operations online. See above for acceptable forms of ID. Then come into any library and verify your current address with a picture ID or two other forms of ID to receive your permanent library card. After you have your permanent card, then you can check out items.

To begin the online card application, go to the My Account portion of OCPL's catalog and click on the sentence above the log in box, “If you do not have a library card, click here to register now”.
