TeenWork - Autumn 2007

Thinking of Blue

What is blue?
Blue is the calm rolling waves of the sea,
like a bird that sings a soft melody.
Blue is the jeans that are starting to fray,
the eyes that I see in the mirror each day.
The mountain with a peak that reaches so high,
A dolphin,
a heron,
a blue butterfly.
Blue is the sky when it’s nice outside,
the sparkling water that flows with the tide.
The sound of blue is drip, drip, drop,
like the taste of a yummy ice pop.
A creek in the middle of a still forest,
a lively song sung by a chorus.
The world would be a blank white page,
if it didn’t have blue to light up its stage.

- Deanna Gerde, grade 7
