Biographical History

The Syracuse Armory was build in 1859 at the intersection of Franklin Street and West Jefferson Street in Syracuse. The first building burned down, but was rebuilt in the same place in 1874. The Armory was used as a drill center and also used as a storage facility for various military equipment. Both buildings were designed by Horatio Nelson White.

Acquisition Information

In the 1990's the Armory was bought by a private firm. During the reconstruction a number of boxes containing documents were found under a stairwell and those documents were donated to the library.
