Friends of the Central Library Donate $50,000 to the Central Library

In a brief ceremony before the seventh and final lecture of the 2008-2009 Rosamond Gifford Lecture Series, The Friends of the Central Library donated a $50,000 check to the Central Library.  Prior to the start of the Ishmael Beah lecture on May 19, FOCL Board President Kathy Mezzalingua gave the check to Elizabeth Dailey, Executive Director of the Onondaga County Public Library, and to Jane Sudaby, President of the Board of Trustees of the Onondaga County Public Library.

“The Friends of the Central Library’s mission statement is to champion the Central Library as a vital community resource,” said Denise Headd, Program Director for FOCL.  “Through fundraising and public advocacy, we enhance the excellence of our library.”

Central Library uses the funds to purchase books and materials for the Central Library and branches.  The money is also used to fund programming for children and adults.

The Rosamond Gifford Lecture series will kick off its 15th season on October 6, with author Khaled Hosseini.  The lecture series is now the largest library-related lecture series in the country.

For further information please contact Denise Headd at 435-1832.
