Artist’s Statement:
“I was born in Varna Bulgaria where I started drawing at very early age. My mother was a radio journalist and use to take me to her work in the radio station. There, while she was on air, to keep me quiet she used to give me pens and paper to draw something. Living in one of the art capitals of Europe I was exposed to fine art and theater on a very high level. Later, I used to draw mainly caricatures and my first official one man show was at the age of ten. The exhibition consisted of caricatures of people well known locally. Still in Bulgaria I studied art and technical drawing, but for many years had the painting mainly as a hobby. I worked professionally only for a brief period of time in Carmel by the sea (Monterey) in California where I painted seascapes and still life.

Krum bio photographAfter my deployment to Afghanistan as an US Army medic I was inspired by the views and people and returned to oil painting. Most of my paintings are done in modified traditional Dutch master’s technique, but for seascapes I employ also tick impasto.

The exhibit in the Central Library is entitled “Horizons” and will consist of views and larger pieces. The paintings are in oil on wood from reclaimed wood boards, recycled furniture doors and window frames.

Some other works can be seen on my website www.ionopsis.com
