Central Library
Basic Computer Class Series for Adults
Begins January 18, 2012 and continues each Wednesday from 1- 2 PM through March 7, 2012.
This eight week hands-on class will cover topics such as computer terminology, navigating the web, Internet safety, learning to create, save, and retrieve a file, exploring the basic features of Microsoft Office, and much more! Call 315.435.1900 to register for one or more classes. One-on-one computer training also available on Thursdays by appointment.

February Weekly Classes
Webinar: Uncovering the Hidden Job Market: Career Search Strategies using ReferenceUSA
This free one-hour webinar is offered each Wednesday between January 11 and March 28, 2012.
Registrants may choose between two times: 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM or 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM. The webinar can be accessed from any computer with Internet access. Call 315.435.1900 with any questions.
Webinar Description: Learn how to use the ReferenceUSA database as part of your career searching strategy. The webinar includes information on the importance of having accurate information for applications and resumes, creating engaging cover letters, assembling a network of references and referrers, finding key persons at a business to act as mentors, building datasets of potential employers based on skill set, work history and preferences, as well as how to prepare for interviews and interactions with thorough research. (The ReferenceUSA database is available to library patrons through the OCPL website.)

Webinar: The Morningstar Investment Database Training
Thursday, February 2nd at 12:00 PM
Training sessions on how to use this valuable investment database, available to Central Library patrons and card holders, are held the first Thursday of each month at 12 Noon. The Morningstar Investment Research Center is a database that lets users review new stock and fund reports, find historical daily prices from the 1960’s, research executive bios and compensation, and export features for the top 100 fund holdings.

Computer Instruction-Basic Windows

Just starting out with a computer and overwhelmed at all of the options? We’ll show you the most helpful and used programs and features of Windows. Basic keyboard and mouse computer knowledge required. Each participant will have a computer to work on. Laptops are welcome. The course is absolutely free, but limited to 5 participants. This is a free workshop for 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations. Learn about the resources and services of the Nonprofit Resource Center. See a demo of the Foundation Directory Online database, a useful resource for locating new funding prospects. Feel free to bring your own laptop for hands-on practice searching during this session. Participants will receive a special password to access the database until midnight.

Beginning African-American Family History Research

Join Soule's very own genealogy expert, Adult/Teen Services Librarian Gary Jones. With over 10 years experience assisting the public in the Local/History/Genealogy Department located at the Central Library. Gary has presented numerous workshops and is the author of two biographical memoirs. This workshop is a great opportunity to learn how to get started with your research.
