The Foundation Center
An easy-to-use gateway to a wide variety of resources, the Foundation Center's web site provides grantseekers, grantmakers, researchers, policymakers and the general public with access to information about grants, foundations, corporate giving, proposal writing, training, news, links to numerous related sites, an online librarian and the location of the Foundation Center's Cooperating Collections (including Onondaga County Public Library's Nonprofit Resource Center located at the Central Library).


The Chronicle of Philanthropy
Online version of the Chronicle, includes trends and news in philanthropy, RFPs etc.


Council on Foundations
Foundation basics, electronic version of Foundation News & Commentary Magazine, conference publications, links to other nonprofit sites, as well as to homepages of private foundations and corporations.

 

Grants and Related Resources
From Michigan State University, a very inclusive site which features RFPs, links to periodicals and fundraising tools. Includes online resources especially for academic and elementary/secondary education fundraisers.


New York Regional Association of Grantmakers
The New York Regional Association of Grantmakers, a membership organization of private grantmakers in the New York City tri-state area, works to improve and enhance the practice of philanthropy and to encourage leadership for collaborative action. NYRAG's Web site offers information about the association’s Peer Networks program, legislative outreach and monitoring, and information about City Connect, an initiative to foster coalition-building among city government, private funders, and the nonprofit community.

Government Funding


Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance
This is the official federal document that describes all grant and loan programs in the U.S. The website includes a search engine. The most recent print copy is shelved in the Nonprofit Resource Center at the Central Library


GPO Access
Search the full text of the Federal Register, Congressional Record, Congressional Bills and other federal government information online. Locate and download electronic information from numerous federal agencies.


Grants Action News
RFPs from NYS and Federal agencies and a list of grant writing courses and seminars.  Older issues are available online.  Print issues are kept for two years in the Nonprofit Resource Center.


Grants.gov
A unified, comprehensive web site that allows grantseekers to electronically find, apply for, and manage federal grants in one place. It encompasses over 900 grant programs offered by 26 federal grantmaking agencies. Managed by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, it offers users "full service electronic grant administration" with guidelines and grant applications available online. You can search by agency, category, or browse the available grant opportunities.


Grantsnet
Focuses on access to the Department of Health and Human Service's hundreds of funding opportunities plus links to other government grants.

 

Institute of Museum and Library Services
Supports all areas of the arts and humanities.


National Endowment for the Arts
Details the federal NEA grant programs, application guidelines, news, legislation and NEA's partnerships with other agencies.


National Endowment for the Humanities
A Federal agency that funds learning and research projects in history, literature, philosophy, and other areas of the humanities.


New York State Council on the Arts
Describes the various grant programs that are funded by the agency to provide "support for activities of nonprofit arts and cultural organizations."


SRA International
Wealth of information on government grants and contracts organized by agency, regulations, private funding, and general resources.

 

USA.gov
A government web site that provides the public with easy, one-stop access to all online U.S. federal government resources, including government benefits and grants information. USA.gov for Businesses includes business loans and grants, state programs, contract and tax information, and more.  USA.gov for Nonprofits includes links to federal web sites and information about grant programs, by cabinet department and federal agency. Visitors can also search Notices of Funding Availability from the Federal Register.

Local Foundations


The Allyn Foundation
A private, family foundation, located in Skaneateles, NY.  The foundation focuses its grantmaking in the areas of healthcare, higher education, family planning and human services.


Central New York Community Foundation
Includes information on applying for grants, links to grant recipient agencies and more from our local community foundation, which manages hundreds of charitable funds for grants in Onondaga and Madison counties.


Fred L. Emerson Foundation
Established in 1932, the foundation supports education, health programs and community groups in Auburn, Cayuga County and Upstate New York.


John Ben Snow Foundation, Inc.
A private foundation whose geographic focus is primarily Central and Northern New York State. Historically, the Foundation has made grants in the following program areas:  Arts and Culture, Community Development, Education, Environment, Historic Preservation, and Journalism.


The Gifford Foundation
An informative site about one of the largest and oldest foundations dedicated to serving Central New York, here the Foundation provides their grant guidelines, financial statements, recent grants and community projects, plus links.

BBB [Better Business Bureau] Wise Giving Alliance
Covers ethical standards, news and reports on charities and other soliciting organizations which include purpose, some financial information and whether they meet BBB standards.


BoardSource—Building Effective Nonprofit Boards
Offers resources for building stronger nonprofit boards, including workshops and publications.


Charity Channel Forums
Provides easy access to many nonprofit-sector discussion lists.


Charity Village
Updated daily, this is your Canadian source of news, information, resources, and discussions forum for the nonprofit community.


Council of Community Services of New York State
An organization that provides advocacy, training, technical assistance and group purchasing programs for more than 65,000 nonprofits across New York State.


Foundation Center’s 990 Finder
Be sure to use the online tutorial, Demystifying the 990-PF, for an overview of the content, accessibility, and value of Form 990-PF, the tax return filed by private foundations.


GuideStar: The Donor's Guide to the Charitable Universe
Posted here are the 990-PF forms for thousands of foundations. Registration is required for retrieving basic information. There is a fee for accessing some of the archival information.


IdeaList
A searchable, international directory of thousands of nonprofit resources on the Internet. Allows any nonprofit or community organization to add their information for free. Includes job listings. Includes a "How to" information center for nonprofits with links to publications, volunteering, events and financial information.


National Center for Charitable Statistics
Sponsored by same organization, this site provides a wealth of data, local and national, on nonprofits and philanthropy. Links to other related sites and information about their databases.
