Classes

If you have discovered during the job hunting process that you need additional computer training, you may want to take a class at your local library. Several of the OCPL libraries offer one-on-one computer training by appointment as well as open classes.


Central Library offers free introductory computer classes as well as one-on-one beginning computer instruction .  The classes are designed to help individuals who have little or no knowledge of computers or computer programs.  Please call 435-1900 for class schedules and registration, or information on how to make an individual appointment.

Topics covered include:
Computer Basics: Learn the different parts of the computer and become familiar with the Windows operating system.

Navigating the Web: How to navigate the World Wide Web, and aspects of the Web to avoid.

Introduction to Microsoft Word: Hands-on class teaching the basics of how to set up, write and print a document.

Email Basics: How to set up a free email account and how to receive email, open attachments, attach a document, sort email and more.

Check the OCPL Calendar of Events (and limit by Computer Instruction) regularly for information about upcoming classes and how to register. See the following detailed list of suburban libraries that frequently offer computer training and to find out about additional, last minute programs.

Books

A wide selection of books about computers is available for check out. Find everything from the ‘For Dummies” series to more advanced computer applications. 

 

Database

Use your library card and PIN to log into the Learning Express Database . In the Learning Express Database, click the link to Computer Skills in the left sidebar for tutorials and self-paced instruction on WordPerfect, all the MS Office applications and Windows and Mac operating systems. 

 

Websites

From the OCPL website, click Search Tools – Internet Links. Use the pull down menu to select Computers to find websites offering online tutorials, Mouserobics and other helpful information for new computer users.  Also included are links to local computer support groups.
