Where Can I Find Grants For Emergency Food, Housing Costs,
Medical Bills or Personal Debt? 

 

Local Agencies

Onondaga County Helpline is a free resource that provides human services information and referrals to the citizens of our local community 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The Helpline is also available by phone at 315-435-8300.   

Websites

General

National Resource Directory provides information on, and access to, services and resources for wounded, ill and injured service members and veterans, their families and families of the fallen, and those who support them from recovery and rehabilitation to community reintegration.

 

GovBenefits.gov The official benefits website of the U.S. government, with information on over 1,000 benefit and assistance programs.  Search Benefits, then select the individual state to find local programs.  Loan information is listed at GovLoans.gov.

 

2-1-1 Information and Referral  Search connects you with important community services and volunteer opportunities.  Currently there is no 211 service in the Onondaga County area.

 

The local Catholic Charities may provide some emergency services. 

 

Housing

Home Save Program (NACA) The Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America helps owner-occupant homeowners who have unaffordable mortgages.  Owners cannot be investors.

 

The federal government’s USA.gov site includes information about the Mortgage ForeclosureMortgage Forgiveness and Debt Relief Act of 2007 and the Housing Assistance with Rent Payment programs.

 

HUD – Hope for Homeowners A program that allows borrowers who are having difficulty making their mortgage payments to refinance with a new loan insured by HUD's Federal Housing Administration (FHA). Program ends September 30, 2011.

Foundation for Health Care Coverage Education assists consumers in their efforts to locate and access health care coverage.

 

Find A Health Center  The Health Resources and Services Administration maintains a searchable listing of health centers that provide health and dental care to people of all ages, whether or not they have health insurance or the money to pay for health care. Hereis the list for Onondaga County

 

National Free Clinic Directory – currently there are none listed for the Syracuse area.
