Job Summary:
The Director of Community Relations develops and implements the marketing and public relations plan for the Library. This individual is designated by the Executive Director to serve as a direct liaison between the media and the community for the Library. This individual works to enhance the visibility of the Library, creating and distributing information through effective media relations, marketing and community relations plans. This individual will have substantial involvement in the planning and execution of Library programs, development activities and special events.
Job Duties:
The Director of Community Relations will be responsible for the following:
Internal communication with ED and designated staff for all PR related activity
External communication with all stakeholders for all PR related activities
Media relations and media events internally and externally
Press releases and news releases
PR design and support for all staff programming
Designated Library representative to community groups and associations including AFP-CNY, Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce, Village of Fayetteville Liaison, Rotary and service groups and others as requested by the ED.
Participates in and acts as the Library point person for various community projects and activities including Fayetteville First Festival, Currier and Ives weekend and other annual events.
Assists the ED with development activities including general fundraising, grant searching, proposal writing and event planning
Written speeches/comments for ED and other professional staff as requested
Develop and maintain current and accessible media/community/expert contact database
Develops and maintains a communications calendar

Skill and experience in designing, implementing and managing public relations and marketing plans
Project management skill and experience

Skill in media relations- both written and oral
Knowledge of marketing capabilities- web design and web 2.0 skills preferred
Oral communications skills- skill in speaking clearly and persuasively in positive and negative situations and responding to all inquiries in a professional manner. Skill in listening to and interacting with individuals at all levels of the organization and in the community.
Excellent written communication skills.
Proven ability to adapt to changes in work environment, managing competing demands and ability to deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events
Advanced interpersonal skills including the ability to remain open to others ideas and exhibit willingness to try new things. Skill in dealing effectively with a variety of personalities and situations requiring tact, judgment and poise. Skill at working collaboratively in a team environment.
Experience working with various members of the public including elected officials, community leaders, media, stakeholders; skill in relationship and partnership building
Computer Skills:
Mastery of Microsoft applications including- Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, Excel and Outlook.
Experience with digital photography
Mastery of internet and email
Prefer experience with graphic design and/or web design software
Physical requirements:
Physical requirements are typical for those required for an administrative position. Some travel may be required.
Compensation:
Salary is based on experience and is will be competitive with a similar position in a not for profit.
