How to Place a Hold

If you would like to request an item that is not currently available at your library location, you can place a hold using the online catalog. You will need your library card number and PIN. If you do not have a PIN, you can obtain one by calling your local library.

  1. Connect to the catalog, and search for the item using either the visual or traditional search. The visual search doesn’t remember you, so you’ll have to enter your card number and PIN each time you place a hold. If you are going to place multiple holds, it might be more convenient to use the traditional search.

  2. You will see a list of items that match your search terms. Click on a title to go to the Item Information screen. Read the item description carefully to be sure it’s what you’re looking for.

  3. Click the Request Item button.

  4. Enter your User ID (the number on your library card) and your PIN, then click the Login button.

  5. If your email address is included in your profile, you will automatically be notified via email when the item becomes available. Otherwise, you will be notified according to the policy of the library you select as your pickup location.

  6. Select the library location where you would like to pick up the item when it becomes available.

  7. Click the Request button.

  8. The catalog will display a confirmation message. After you have read the message, click Return to Searching.

To check the status of pending holds, or to cancel a hold, access My Account and click the Holds link.
