Finding Census 2000 Data

 

To Find Data by City, Town, Village or County Name:

  1. Go to American FactFinder, a government Census website (Link opens a new browser window.)
  2. Select "Census 2000" from the first drop-down menu.
  3. Select "New York" (or another state) from the next drop-down menu ("Restrict Search to").
  4. In the "Enter name to search for" box, type the city, town, village or county name of interest to you, and click on "Search."
  5. Click on one of the choices in the results list, and then click on "OK."
  6. Scroll down and choose from hyperlinked (underlined) data sets.
  7. To find Census Tract or Block statistics, click on "Show more selection methods and more geographic types."

To Find Data by Zip Code:

  1. Go to American FactFinder, a government Census website (Link opens a new browser window.)
  2. Select Census 2000 for year and program.
  3. Click on drop-down arrow at "Search for" box.
  4. Choose "5-Digit ZIP Code Tabulation Area."
  5. Select appropriate first three digits (i.e., to find information on ZIP code 13202, select "132").
  6. Select a geography. Highlight the appropriate 5-digit ZIP code and click "OK."
  7. Scroll down to the bottom of page to select a map of this ZIP code and/or various data charts.
