Library Announces Winners of CNY Reads Writing & Poetry Contest
SYRACUSE, NY — The Onondaga County Public Library has selected the winners of the CNY Reads Writing and Poetry Contest for area high school students. Students and their families are invited to a special reception at the Central Library, located in The Galleries of Syracuse, 447 South Salina St., on Wednesday, April 9 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The reception is being held in the Smith Room on the 5th floor. Winners will be asked to read their essays. Prizes and certificates will be awarded to students at the ceremony. Selections are as follows:
- 1st Place – Julia Calagiovanni from West Genesee High School. Julia will receive tickets to the Gifford Lecture by Michael Ondaatje. She will also receive a Certificate of Recognition for her poem, the only poem submitted in the contest.
- 2nd Place – Alex Lawson and Ellen Pavlacka, both from Liverpool High School, will receive tickets to Syracuse Stage’s production of The Fantastiks.
- 3rd Place – Zach Wienandt and Emily Zalewski, both from Liverpool High School, will receive $25 gift cards to Barnes & Noble.
- Honorable Mention – Chris Gerbino and Julia Oyer, both from Liverpool High School, will receive autographed hardcover copies of this year’s CNY Reads selection, Mountains Beyond Mountains. The books were autographed by Tracy Kidder and Paul Farmer.
