Book Selection Criteria
- One book, not a body of work
- Easily available and in-print
- Living author preferred
- Broad appeal, especially having appeal for high-school students
- Introducing something new to readers (something they haven't necessarily read or experienced before)
- Lends itself to study of craft/esthetics, as well as social issues
- Lends itself to participation in other arts, e.g., drama
- Ties to Central New York
- Convenient (are there, or will there be, related local resources, people and events?)
- Fiction slightly preferred to non-fiction
- Other genres, such as poetry, short stories, and biography, should be considered
- Current social relevance is desirable
- Interesting, compelling and inspiring
- Author diversity (race, religion, ethnicity, etc.) preferred
