Book Selection Criteria

• One book, not a body of work
• Easily available and in-print
• Living author preferred
• Broad appeal, especially having appeal for high-school students
• Introducing something new to readers (something they haven't necessarily read or experienced before)
• Lends itself to study of craft/esthetics, as well as social issues
• Lends itself to participation in other arts, e.g., drama
• Ties to Central New York
• Convenient (are there, or will there be, related local resources, people and events?)
• Fiction slightly preferred to non-fiction
• Other genres, such as poetry, short stories, and biography, should be considered
• Current social relevance is desirable
• Interesting, compelling and inspiring
• Author diversity (race, religion, ethnicity, etc.) preferred
