

Tracy Kidder was born in New York City in 1945. He spent his childhood growing up in Oyster Bay, Long Island, where his father was a lawyer and his mother a teacher. He attended Harvard where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1967.
Kidder is a regular contributor to the New Yorker, Atlantic Monthly and The New York Times Book Review. He received the Robert F. Kennedy Book Award in 1990, the Ambassador Book Award in 1990 and the Sarah Josepha Hale Award in 1998, among others. He has also written several short works of fiction.
Kidder lives with his wife in western Massachusetts and Maine.
