Drop by Petit to fold an origami crane or two or ten
as we work toward our goal of making 1,000 paper
cranes. In Japanese culture, the crane is a symbol
of happiness and good fortune. Because of this, it
is said that anyone who folds Senbazuru, or 1,000
cranes, will have their wish granted. Senbazuru,
was popularized by the story of Sadako Sasaki,
who undertook the challenge of folding 1,000
cranes after being diagnosed with leukemia caused
by the Atomic Bomb being dropped in Hiroshima,
Japan. Through her story, Senbazuru also became
a symbol of peace for all that participate in their
making.
