The Onondaga County Pioneer Index
consists of index cards listing known Onondaga County pioneers from the earliest
settling of the county until approximately 1850. These index cards list vital
information and references to the individual and family in sources throughout the
library.
Administrative History
The Onondaga County Pioneer Index was created by a local historian and genealogist,
Grace Beauchamp Lodder, who worked in the Syracuse Public Library for many years.
She indexed resources in the library that referred to families who lived in Onondaga
County prior to 1850. Carefully cataloging and typing up each index card, Mrs.
Lodder produced hundreds of these cards which allow the family history researcher to
find details and records of the families in a myriad of resources in the library.
The indexes point to books, cemetery inscriptions, census records, journal articles
and more.

The collection is a index listing early Onondaga County settlers and inhabitants,
with various vital details and referenced publications.

The collection is arranged alphabetically by surname of Onondaga County resident.
