Administrative History

The Christ Episcopal Church of Jordan, New York was officially organized on November
30, 1840. Services at that time were held in the schoolhouse of District 17 on Main
Street in the village of Jordan. The church membership gradually grew, and in 1846 a
church building was erected on North Main Street in Jordan, with a membership of 19
dedicated communicants. The church membership continued to grow and by 1863 a new
house of worship was planned. A brick church was erected on the corner of North Main
and Delhi Streets. H.N. White was the architect. The cornerstone of the new church
was laid June 16, 1863 and on December 29, 1863, Bishop Delancy consecrated the new
church. Renovations continued on the church over the years, including the addition
of a tower, a bell, lighting, and stained glass windows. An house to be used for an
Education Center for the Sunday School was purchased next door to the church in
1955.

In 1956 the Memphis Church was closed and the Christ Church of Jordan welcomed those
new members to join their church. Repairs and renovations continued and a new organ
was purchased for the church in 1967. The Education Center closed and sold in 1983.
A bell for the tower was acquired from St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Port Byron in
1988. The church continues to be an active in the Jordan community.
