A census of religious affiliations,
taken in the city of Syracuse on January 28, 1911 under the auspices of the Syracuse
City Sunday School Association. Each religion is in its own folder. Each of these
folders list names of heads of each family, address of family, and number of people
in the household. These households are arranged by ward.
Biographical History
The Syracuse City Sunday School Association undertook a religious census of the city
of Syracuse on January 28, 1911. Census takers collected information on the
religious affiliation of households in the city of Syracuse. Each folder contains
households of the same religion. Listed are the names of the households, the number
of members of the household identifying with that religion, the address of that
household, and whether or not they are members of the Sunday School Association. The
intention of the census was to get an accurate picture of religions in the city of
Syracuse in 1911. The Sunday School Association hoped to use that information to
share with city pastors of the various religions to contact households to encourage
full fellowship with their church.
Scope and Contents of the Collection
This collection consists of names, addresses, household numbers, religious
affiliations and membership in Sunday School Association of residents of the City of
Syracuse in 1911. Also includes is a report on this census by the Syracuse Sunday
School Association.

This material in this collection is arranged in alphabetical order by name of
prominent religion. Those religions with few participants are listed at the end of
the inventory.
