This collection consists of the
parish records of William H. Giles, who led numerous upstate New York churches
between 1879-1913. These records include names and addresses, and records of
baptisms, marriages and deaths of his parishioners at a number of churches in
Central New York.
Biographical History
William H. Giles was a Methodist-Episcopal minister. For 55 years he served his
church, occupying many pastorates in various churches in Central New York. He held
positions in Pratts Hollow, Scott, Fleming, Scipioville, Moravia, West Genesee
Street Church in Syracuse, State Street Church in Ithaca, Geneva, Oneida, Penn Yan
and Lyons. Reverend Giles was also a trustee of the Cazenovia Seminary, and was
active in the Methodist Episcopal conferences in New York state. Reverend Giles died
in 1935 at the age of 79.
Scope and Contents of the Collection
This collection consists of the parish records of Reverend William H. Giles spanning
the years 1879-1913. The records include names and addresses of church parishioners.
Also listed are church baptisms, marriages and deaths. Reverend Giles was appointed
to churches in Pratts's Hollow, Scott, Fleming, Moravia, West Genesee St. Church in
Syracuse, State Street Church in Ithaca, Geneva, Oneida, Palmyra, Penn Yan,
Cazenovia and Lyons and his church records are included in this collection.
