Biographical History
Willard Rouse Jillson was born in Syracuse, NY in 1890 and grew up both in the city
of Syracuse and on Onondaga Hill. Jillsons interest and study of geological
formations began as a boy, exploring and studying the ravines and bluffs of Onondaga
Hill. This interest in geology and the natural world continued all of Jillson’s
life. Jillson attended Syracuse’s Central High School, then graduated from Syracuse
University in 1912. Jillson did post graduate work at Yale and the Universities of
Chicago and Washington. As a young man Jillson moved to Kentucky, where he became
the first director of state parks. While director, Jillson established four state
parks in Kentucky. Jillson was also the curator of the Kentucky State Museum, and
the former president of the Kentucky Historical Society. At the age of 29 Jillson
was appointed Kentucky state geologist, the youngest person in the country to hold
that post. Dr. Jillson extensively researched and wrote about history, literature,
art and science, and was a professor at several universities. Dr. R.W. Jillson died
in 1975.

This collection consists of pamphlets written by author William Rouse Jillson, as
well as several pamphlets about the writings of Jillson written by others.
