ABOUT THE LIBRARY

Soule Branch Library was named for Oscar F. Soule, a member of a prominent Syracuse family who was very active in the business and civic community. He was a trustee of the Syracuse Public Library from 1932, and President of its Board from 1952 until his retirement in 1968.

Soule Branch was dedicated on October 25, 1965, and opened for service to the public on November 8. Presently, it is open 64 hours a week, including Sundays during the school year, and houses a collection of over 35,000 volumes, 3000 DVDs, 1000 audio books, 500+ CDs, and numerous newspaper and magazine subscriptions. Among its special collections Soule lends urban fiction, home schooling materials, and graphic novels.

Soule Branch offers a variety of programs for adults, including group computer instruction on a variety of computer-related topics, genealogy workshops and seminars, lectures on a variety of topics, and seasonal craft opportunities.

The library hosts an annual Book Sale and Strawberry Festival at the end of June. Clean and contemporary donations are gladly accepted. Please call for guidelines.

Programs for children include weekly story times for both toddlers and preschoolers, Summer Reading Programs for children and young adults, school break entertainment, and periodic educational and enrichment activities.

Monthly flyers, listing specific program titles including dates and times, are available at the library. Programs are also listed in the OCPL Events Calendar.

Internet access and word processing computers are available for adults, young adults, and children via networked PCs or through our free wireless connection.

Soule Branch has both a ramp and an automated front door, making it wheelchair accessible. Other features include a comfortable reading lounge, graced by stained glass window panels, a large community meeting room, and a photocopier. The branch is also located across the street from Le Moyne College and is adjacent to the Le Moyne Plaza which houses a coffee shop, pizza restaurant, and college bookstore.
