Founded in 1922, Maxwell is housed in a circa-1868 former church on the corner of Genesee and Leroy streets in the village of Camillus. Founded in 1913 with a donation of 215 books, the Marcellus Free Library currently has a collection of approximately 30,000 items, including a unique collection of choral music. 

The Library circulates over 123,000 items annually. 

On May 5, 2008 the Marcellus Free Library opened its new location in the Village of Marcellus at 32 Maple Street in the Crown Mill Development near the corner of Orange and Maple Streets.
