LaFayette is a beautiful rural town located in the rolling hills just south of Syracuse, NY. The town is home to multiple apple orchards, and welcomes thousands of visitors each fall to the annual LaFayette Apple Festival. LaFayette is famous for the 1869 "discovery" of the Cardiff Giant. The center of town is at the crossing of Route 20, the longest road in the US (running from Boston, MA to Newport, OR) and Route 11, which runs from New York to Louisiana! The LaFayette Public Library is a municipal library, meaning that we are a department of the Town of LaFayette and supported by town taxes. The library is a member of the Onondaga County Public Library System and open to the general public. Serving as a community engagement space, we strive to connect everyone with equitable access to resources, ideas, and information. With our programs, collections, and friendly staff we have supported the varied and evolving needs of our community for 90 years. Available at the LaFayette Library are over 16,000 print books and 5,400 non-book items such as DVDs, CDs, and other resources such as park passes and fishing kits. From best-sellers to current magazines, children’s series to audiobooks, we offer something for everyone. We have free online databases, e-books, and other virtual materials ready to use at https://lafayettelibrary.org/ . Online, patrons can browse LaFayette High School yearbooks back to 1920. Our children’s area is cozy, with plenty of books, games, and toys for our younger patrons. Services include access to public computers, printing and faxing (fees), as well as Wi-Fi. Our upstairs community room can be reserved by calling the library. We also have a small, sound-insulated study room. The library has abundant free parking and the main door is accessible. We provide story times, a book club, crafting opportunities, and other programming. Julie Mason served as the first librarian. Books were donated by many persons and the library was opened in the Crowe Building with an annual budget of $400.00. On July 21, 1968 the LaFayette Public Library was formally awarded its absolute charter by the Regents of the University of the State of New York. The library has been housed in five different buildings over the years, and since 1996 has been located at the LaFayette Commons. Staff: Director: Jessica Rice Staff:
