History

The East Syracuse Free Library was originally founded by community leaders in 1924 to lend books to the residents of the Village of East Syracuse and was first located in the Village Fire Barn. The library was also housed temporarily in the Engineers and Conductors Building of the NY Central Railroad. In 1971 the library moved to its current location.

Collection

The library offers a variety of materials including books, large print books, audiobooks, DVD’s, graphic novels, and magazines, kits, and puzzles. Digital items are available to download or stream on a variety of devices include e-books, e-audiobooks, movies, music, and magazines. Free passes for parks and local attractions are available. The library also has computers for public use as well as Wi-Fi. Copy, fax, and scanning services are also available.

Events & Programs

A variety of free programs are available and include story times, summer reading programs, monthly book clubs, performers and entertainers, art exhibitions, blood drives and more. The library also is a drop off for donations to our local food pantry.

Building & Facilities

The library is wheelchair accessible and has an automated front door. The library also has a community room which is available to reserve for use by appointment.
