Reading to pets can boost reading skills in children as well as help with emotional and social skills.

OCPL offers the following read to a dog opportunities:

One-on-One Sessions with Addie

Baldwinsville Public Library

Register for a one-on-one session with one of B'ville Library's therapy dogs: 

Addie (shown above).

Registration is required.

Addie stops by once a month, on Thursdays, from 4 p.m. - 5 p.m.


Read to George

Brewerton NOPL

George, the therapy dog, visits Brewerton NOPL once a month with his two humans.

Come meet George and his humans Alan and Christy.

George loves a good story so join us for a pup-tacular chance to practice your reading skills, or just stop by to say hello and give him a belly rub!

All are welcome. 

Typically, the 3rd Saturday of each month at 10:30 - 11:30 am.

Meet Phoebe!

"Pawsed" [Paused] for Summer

She loves tunnels, cuddling, running crazy and playing with water.

Her “grandpa” found her and her littermates at our cottage on Keuka Lake and life hasn’t been the same since!

She has been a therapy cat since 2024.

She visits once a month, on a Saturday, and hangs out in the Laptop Lap by KidSpace, on the 2nd floor.

She’s a 5-year-old Bernese Mountain Dog who has been doing Pet Therapy since 2021!

She loves her job meeting new people every day and spreading love and joy to all.

Olive loves to play at the park with her sisters and snuggle up on the couch with her family at home.

She visits once a month, on a Saturday, and hangs out in the Laptop Lap by KidSpace, on the 2nd floor.

Paws to Read

Liverpool Public Library

Brody is Liverpool Public Library's reading therapy dog. In this photo he smiles and lays quietly while a child reads him a story

Paws to Read is a long-standing program at 10 a.m. Saturdays in the Children's Room.

Children can sign up when they arrive to read to a friendly dog from PAWS of CNY, Inc.

Family members are encouraged to get involved as well.
